Here I am in Bangkok: almost 30 years from my first time, the city retains all its charm. A very successful mix of chaos and colors, modernity and tradition, perfect for both those looking for comfort and for those who love adventure. Shopping, massages and a lot of history at hand.

Four nights in Bangkok

Whether it's a stopover or a business trip, stopping a few days in Bangkok is always worth it. These days I have tried the evening cruise on Chao Phraya and three excursions that I have been impressed with: the energy of Chinatown, the evocative canals and the magnificence of the lying Buddha.

I also added the Golden Mountain and the Temple of Dawn, Wat Arun. For height lovers, Skywalk and rooftop bars are the cherry on the cake, especially at sunset.

On this occasion I enjoyed a private guide: it allowed me to choose my times and enjoy the places calmly.

From Kwai River to Ayutthaya

After four nights in the city I took a short three-day tour to the north-west and then Ayutthaya. Floating market and train market? Cute, but for my too-built tastes: personally I would look for alternatives.

Help, ancient capital of Siam, struck me by the ruins, the pagodas and the Buddhas. An authentic and powerful atmosphere: one night here is really worth it.

The Erawan Falls are another step of this trip: seven levels, turquoise waters and nature. I recommend you arrive early, checking the park hours before the visit.

A Kanchanaburi I have traveled a short stretch of the Death Railway along the Kwai River. And there is also a cave where you pray, a collected place that I remember with pleasure.

The little choices that change the day

In Bangkok traffic requires patience: whenever possible, BTS, MRT and boats are alternatives to consider. In temples like Wat Pho and Wat Arun I wear respectful clothing, with shoulders and knees covered.

For the evening cruise I enjoyed the outdoor table, next to the balustrade. After many walks, even a foot massage became one of my favorite breaks.

Not everything was unforgettable, but every stage had something to say: even reviewing expectations is part of the journey.

This first part gave me a nice contrast: the vitality of Bangkok, the quietness of Ayutthaya's ruins and landscapes that tell the story with a loud but intense voice.

Next step: descend south of Thailand, direction islands, to the border with Malaysia. The story continues to Koh Lipe.
