Description of trip

It starts from Porto following the Douro towards the ocean. From here the road goes up the coast between beaches, walkways and small centers, passing through Póvoa de Varzim and Viana do Castelo.

Crossing the Minho, the journey enters Galicia: Oia, Baiona, Vigo and Pontevedra accompany the route towards Padrón. The landscape changes, with rocky bays, woods and uphills, until the arrival in Santiago de Compostela.

The last destination is Plaza do Obradoiro, in front of the cathedral. A small group trip, with e-bikes for rent and luggage in the bike bags, which ends with the return by bus to Porto.

The trip, step by step

Indicative distances. The distribution of days and nights will be specified in the definitive programme.

Arrival

Welcome to Porto

Arrival in Porto from Italy and preparation of the trip. The aircraft operations and the accommodation of the first day will be specified in the definitive program.

Step 1 · About 35 km

Porto → Póvoa de Varzim

You follow the Douro to the Atlantic, along a predominantly flat path. On the coast the first footbridges appear: in the sections reserved for pedestrians, you follow the alternative roads suitable for bicycles.

Step 2 · About 50 km

Póvoa de Varzim → Viana do Castelo

It continues north, between open beaches and sandy stretches, until Viana do Castelo. The historic center and the riverfront offer a break between palaces and city views.

Step 3 · About 80 km

Viana do Castelo → Oia

The longest stage of the program crosses the Minho to enter Spain. The long beaches are replaced by rocky bays and more hilly landscapes, as far as Oia and the monastery of Santa María la Real.

Step 4 · About 70 km

Oia → Pontevedra

It continues through Baiona and Vigo, alternating coasts, stretches in the green, short climbs and descents. Possible stop at Arcade before reaching Pontevedra, on the banks of the Lérez.

Step 5 · About 40 km

Pontevedra → Pattern

The path continues between woods and uphill. The shortest distance leaves room for the discovery of Padrón, but the levels still require attention to the rhythm of the pedal.

Step 6 · About 20 km

Master → Santiago de Compostela

The last pedal ride leads to Santiago, to Plaza do Obradoiro, in front of the cathedral. It is time to share the arrival after the road travelled together. The program includes overnight stay in Santiago.
