Description of trip

It starts from Lisbon and follows the Atlantic to the north: fishing villages, cliffs, beaches and cities to discover with the time of a pedal. Cascais, Ericeira and Nazaré accompany the first part of the trip, before the Aveiro canals and the arrival in Porto.

From Porto the route continues along the coast, passing Viana do Castelo and crossing the Minho to enter Galicia. Oia, Pontevedra and Padrón mark the approach to Santiago de Compostela, until the arrival in front of the cathedral in Plaza do Obradoiro.

A small group trip, with e-bike rental and Italian companion. Baggage travel with us in the bike bags: pedal, stop and share the road. The photos below tell the Lisbon–Port section lived with Sangallo Tours in 2025.

The route

The trip, step by step

Indicative route and distances. The distribution of days, stops and overnight stays will be specified in the definitive program.

Arrival

Lisbon

I arrive in Lisbon and visit the historic center with Italian guide. A first meeting with the capital, before leaving by bicycle along the coast.

About 35 km

Lisbon → Cascais

The first pedal ride follows the EuroVelo 1 cycle to Cascais, between views of the water and beaches. Upon arrival, the center of the coastal resort and its citadel.

About 58 km

Cascais → Ericeira

Continue towards Ericeira, fishing village overlooking the Atlantic. The route alternates views of the sea and cliffs, with time to discover the center.

About 70 km

Ericeira → Peniche

The trip reaches Peniche. Among the places to discover, the fort and Cabo Carvoeiro, panoramic point on the ocean.

About 70 km

Peniche → Nazareth

You can ride towards Nazaré, between sea traditions and views of the coast. The Sítio viewpoint offers one of the glimpses of the stage; the possible day of stopping will be defined in the final calendar.

About 90 km

Nazaré → Figueira da Foz

One of the longest stages of the route, to Figueira da Foz. Upon arrival, the long beach and the local market offer opportunities for a break after pedaling.

About 75 km

Foil fig → Hazelnut

You reach Aveiro, with its canals, the boats moliceiros and the Art Nouveau buildings. A stop to discover the city and taste the soft eggs.

About 75 km

Poultry → Port

The stop leads to the center of Porto. La Ribeira, the station of São Bento and the banks of the Douro are among the places to explore during the stay.

Stop in the city

Port

Day dedicated to the visit of the city and leisure time. A break from the rhythm of the pedals before returning to the north.

About 35 km

Porto → Póvoa de Varzim

It runs along the Douro to find the Atlantic. The route is mostly flat: along the coast, the footbridges reserved for pedestrians go around following the alternative roads.

About 50 km

Póvoa de Varzim → Viana do Castelo

It continues towards the north, between beaches, sandy stretches and coastal landscapes. I arrive at Viana do Castelo, with its historical center and the riverside.

About 80 km

Viana do Castelo → Oia

The passage of the Minho River marks the entrance to Spain. The landscape becomes more hilly, between rocky bays and views of the ocean, to Oia and the monastery of Santa María la Real.

About 70 km

Oia → Pontevedra

It continues through Baiona and Vigo, alternating coasts, short climbs and strokes in the green. Possible stop at Arcade before the arrival in Pontevedra, on the banks of the Lérez.

About 40 km

Pontevedra → Pattern

The stage crosses woods and climbs up to Padrón. A day with altitudes to consider even if the distance is more contained.

About 20 km

Master → Santiago de Compostela

The last ride leads to Santiago and Plaza do Obradoiro, in front of the cathedral: the moment to share after the long journey.

Transfer

Santiago de Compostela → Porto

Return to Porto by bus in the morning. The transfer from Santiago is included in the program; overnight stay in Porto before returning to Italy.
